'Ciruja' Sentenced to 17 Years for Murder in Rosario

Nahuel Matías Basualdo, alias 'Ciruja', was sentenced to 17 years in prison for the murder of Ismael Barboza in the city of Rosario, Santa Fe province, in May 2022. Judges Mariano Aliau, Pablo Pinto, and Carlos Leiva, of the Rosario Tribunal, sentenced Basualdo to 17 years in prison after proving his responsibility for the aggravated homicide of Barboza, a 19-year-old young man who was gunned down at the door of his home in the Alvear neighborhood during May 2022. Thus, the Tribunal ratified the hypothesis presented by the Prosecutor's Office, led by Lisandro Artacho. According to this account, Basualdo emerged as a figure of a known 'trapito' (a person who does occasional odd jobs) in the area, linked to tasks at the intersection of Seguí and Carrasco, just a few meters from the crime scene. The Prosecutor's Office managed to confirm that Basualdo shot Barboza five times. As stated in the ruling, around 6:20 PM on May 9, 2022, the victim was inside his home at Biedma 2800, in the Alvear neighborhood. Two of the victim's friends testified that while they were playing video games in the back of the house, they heard someone knock on the door asking for Barboza. By his tone and a distinctive mole on his face, they identified him as Basualdo. As Barboza approached the door, he was hit by three bullet impacts to the chest, and after stumbling back inside, he died in front of his friends and family. Basualdo fled the scene and remained at large for five months until he was located and arrested.
